Good Friday. Losing its purpose to easter bunnies and pastel-coloured eggs. It's the day where the bridge between God and mankind was shortened. The day where Jesus died just for you and me. The day where Jesus suffered immense pain and grief. And, Holy as He is, His last words on the cross was: "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do."
Indeed, we don't. See what the world is like now. Just a whole bunch of messed up people unable to discern right from wrong. Ashamed? Tomorrow, when the dawn breaks, let us just remember this: Because of Jesus' suffering- His nail-pierced hands, His thorn-pricked head, His whipped and bloodied back- we are saved. Saved from our sins, but only if we believe.
Some may ask, "Saved? Why would be need saving? I'm happy the way I am! I don't need some afterlife or whatever." Fact is, don't we all need reassurance? After you die, where will you go? Be another person or just seem to be floating in some deep, dark abyss for the rest of your 'life'? What is the purpose of your life here then? Or, will you rather spend eternity in a place richer than earth? Of course its hard to believe theres a place like that. No one on earth now has seen Heaven. But I am reassured [and you can be too] that my life after this transitory period on earth will be much more fun. I know because the Bible tells me so. Why is it so easy to believe tabloid newspapers, magazines or television shows but not The Truth?
Everyone has a soul, the thing that harbours your feelings and thoughts. So when you die, does your whole body just shut down, your soul together with it? How can your soul, unique and one-of-a-kind, enter another person? Or how can it just be left floating around? In the first place, where would it go? Where is that place you go after your physical body withers? It has to go somewhere- simply put, it'll either go up, or down. Your soul is the very epicentre of your body- it is the very thing that ensures you function with feelings and are one of a kind. It differentiates you from some dog down the street or a baboon in a zoo. It doesn't just die. Where you stand with belief and faith now affects yourself for eternity.
You know sometimes in life when you feel like you want to give up? How do you get out of that mess? For me, a simple prayer like "Daddy God, help me, grant me the strength, the peace and the faith to carry on. I know you will see me through." is sufficient. I don't need to scream, or throw a pillow, or slit my wrists or hide in one corner with a storm cloud over my head. Everyone complains about feeling that life is so meaningless at one point or another. Somehow, I don't feel that often. When there's this inner peace in your soul, there can be storms and disasters raining down on you and yet you will be calm. Just knowing that my Daddy up there is watching me is enough to make me smile and carry on.
Yes, I know most will go, "aww so boring" or "this blog is not some church sermon thing" but I'm just saying this for those whose hearts are softened to listen. If you skipped the whole thing, its okay, I'm not going to find you at night while you're sleeping and suffocate you with a pillow. Really xD I can only sow seeds in your hearts now. For these spiritual seeds to germinate they'll need the warmth and willingness of one's soul!
So I just pray unceasingly that hearts will be softened and ears opened to listen to what really helps. Instead of some trash like "you will be saved if you believe in this idol/human here! come shave your heads and slash yourselves and keep your hair as long as the great wall of china and dont watch tv and dont this dont that" or whatever nonsense. Haha. Happy Easter and Happy remembering what Christ did for us :D
